Tragulus was named by Brisson (1762) [conserved in ICZN Opinion 1894; non Tragulus Pallas 1767 and Tragulus Boddaert 1785]. It is extant.
It was assigned to Tragulidae by Carroll (1988), Vislobokova (2001), Thewissen et al. (2001), Hassanin and Douzery (2003) and Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008).
