Eodesmus condoni

Taxonomy
Eodesmus condoni was named by Tate-Jones et al. (2020). Its type specimen is UOMNCH F-68583, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Moolack Beach, which is in a Burdigalian marine sandstone in the Astoria Formation of Oregon. It is the type species of Eodesmus.

Tate-Jones et al. 2020Eodesmus condoni can be distinguished from other desmatophocids by the plesiomorphic presence of a nasiolabialis fossa and by the following apomorphies: wide anterior nares lat- erally bounded by the maxilla rather than the premaxilla; a circular rather than dorsoventrally compressed foramen magnum; and excavated, posteroventrally protruding paroccipital processes (Fig. 3).
