Taxonomy

Cosoryx was named by Leidy (1869). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Merycodus by Hay (1902), Matthew (1904), Douglass (1909), Henshaw (1939), Gregory (1942), Galbreath (1953) and Webb (1969).

It was assigned to Cosorycinae by Frick (1937); to Antilocapridae by Leidy (1869), Skinner and Taylor (1967) and Tedford et al. (1987); and to Merycodontinae by Janis and Manning (1998).
