Taxonomy
Ovibos was named by Blainville (1816). It is extant. Its type is Bos moschatus.

It was assigned to Bovidae by Blainville (1816), Carroll (1988); to Ovibovini by Grubb (2001); to Caprinae by Hay (1902), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008); and to Caprini by Calamari (2021).
