Taxonomy

Phillipsia (Griffithides) lodiensis was named by Meek (1875) [Phillipsia (Griffithides?) lodiensis]. Its type specimen is AMNH 6422G and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Brachymetopus lodiensis by Herrick (1887); it was recombined as Australosutura lodiensis by Brezinski (1988).

Synonyms

Phaethonides spinosus was named by Herrick (1888). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Licking County, which is in a Kinderhookian marine shale in the Cuyahoga Formation of Ohio.

It was recombined as Brachymetopus maccoyi spinosus by Hahn (1964); it was synonymized subjectively with Australosutura lodiensis by Brezinski (1988); it was recombined as Brachymetopus spinosus by Kammer (1985), Wagner (2020).
Phaethonides immaturus was named by Herrick (1888).

It was synonymized subjectively with Australosutura lodiensis by Brezinski (1988).
Brachymetopus rusticus was named by Hyde (1953).

It was synonymized subjectively with Australosutura lodiensis by Brezinski (1988).
