Brachypotherium was named by Roger (1904). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Rhinocerotidae by Roger (1904), Li and Qiu (1980), Carroll (1988); to Teleoceratini by Prothero and Schoch (1989), Cerdeno (1992), Prothero (1998); to Teleoceratinae by Tong (2001); and to Teleoceratina by Antoine et al. (2010).
