Chilotherium was named by Ringström (1924). It is not extant.
It was assigned to Rhinocerotidae by Carroll (1988); to Aceratheriinae by Prothero and Schoch (1989) and Tong (2001); to Chilotheriini by Deng (2005); and to Aceratheriini by Antoine and Saraç (2005) and Antoine et al. (2010).
