Linguaphillipsia elongata

Taxonomy
Phillipsia elongata was named by Mitchell (1918). Its type specimen is NGSF1500a/b, a cephalon/head (external/internal moulds of dorsal shield), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Binge Berry, Rouchel Brook, which is in a Visean marine siltstone/mudstone in the Woolooma Formation of Australia.

It was recombined as Linguaphillipsia elongata by Hahn and Hahn (1972), Engel and Morris (1975) and Vanderlaan and Ebach (2015).

Ebach 2015Glabella constricted, weakly tapering anteriorly, ending prior to the anterior margin; anterior border narrow, rolled; fixigenae broad, β – β sub–equal to δ – δ; palpebral lobes broad, with a straight ε – ζ section; eyes large, mounted on eye platform delineated by an elevated crescentic ridge. Nine thoracic segments. Pygidium with 18 – 20 axial rings, 13 – 15 pleural ribs; border slightly convex, without distinct furrow, separated by changed of slope from pleura; dorsal surface granulose.
