Protopharetra junensis was named by Zhuravleva (1987). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mackenzie Mountains, section 24b, bioherm 1, which is in a Botomian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Sekwi Formation of Canada.
