Taxonomy
Holmesina was named by Simpson (1930). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chlamytherium by James (1957); it was synonymized subjectively with Pampatherium by Cartelle and Bohorquez (1984).

It was assigned to Pampatheriinae by Kurten and Anderson (1980); to Dasypodidae by Simpson (1930), Hibbard (1955), Carroll (1988); and to Pampatheriidae by Downing and White (1995), Edmund (1996), Mead et al. (2007), McDonald and Naples (2007), Rincón et al. (2008), Albright et al. (2019).
