Stegotheriopsis was named by Bordas (1939). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Dasypodidae by Carroll (1988).

Synonyms
  • Stegotheriopsis gaimanensis was named by Bordas (1939). Its type specimen is 11753, an osteoderm (group of articulated mobile plates and isolated semi-mobile plates), and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was considered an invalid subgroup of Stegotheriopsis by Bordas (1939).
