Merychippus calamarius stylodontus
Taxonomy
Merychippus calamarius stylodontus was named by Merriam (1919). Its type specimen is UCMP 21410, a set of teeth (upper right M1 - M2), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Stylonus stylodontus by Kelly and Lander (1988) and Kelly (1992); it was recombined as Pliohippus stylodontus by Evander (1997); it was recombined as Acritohippus stylodontus by Kelly (1998); it was recombined as Merychippus stylodontus by Lewis (1968), Kelly (1995) and MacFadden (1998).
