Taxonomy
Cynorca occidentale was named by Woodburne (1969). Its type specimen is F:AM 73660, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Tedfordhyus.

It was recombined as Tedfordhyus occidentalis by Prothero (2021).
