It was assigned to Ailurinae by Van Valen (1986), Baskin (1998); to Procyonidae by Hollister (2000); to Ailuridae by Wallace and Wang (2004), Wang et al. (2005); to Ailurini by Wallace and Lyon (2022); and to Ailurinae by Salesa et al. (2006), Salesa et al. (2022).
