Taxonomy
Allops serotinus was named by Marsh (1887) [genotype]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Peanut Peak, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial horizon in the Chadron Formation of South Dakota.

It was recombined as Titanotherium serotinum by Osborn (1896); it was recombined as Megacerops serotinus by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Menodus serotinus by Clark and Beerbower (1967); it was recombined as Menops serotinus by Mader (1989) and Mader (1998).
