Diplotaxidae was named by Kirby (1837). It is extant. Its type is Diplotaxis.

It was reranked as the tribe Diplotaxini by Bouchard et al. (2011), Allsopp and Schoolmeesters (2024).

It was assigned to Melolonthinae by Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Melolonthinae by Allsopp and Schoolmeesters (2024).
