Taxonomy
Heterocyclopyge was named by Marek (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llde-u O Ashg-m Sepkoski's reference number: 795,1075]. It is not extant. Its type is Cyclopyge pachycephala.

It was synonymized subjectively with Selenoptychus by Jell and Adrain (2002); it was reranked as Microparia (Heterocyclopyge) by Owen and Bruton (2012).

It was assigned to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Microparia by Owen and Bruton (2012).
