Taxonomy
Ogygia murchisoniae was named by Murchison (1839). Its type specimen is GSM 18988, a cephalon/head, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Road cut at Roman Rd., Pensarn, which is in a Moridunian offshore mudstone in the Ogof Hen Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Stygina murchisoniae by Morris (1854); it was recombined as Ogygiocaris murchisoniae by Whittard (1964); it was recombined as Megalaspidella murchisoniae by Bates (1969); it was recombined as Merlinia murchisoniae by Fortey and Owens (1978).
