Taxonomy
Osmylus pictus was named by Hagen (1856). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Danziger Naturkundemuseum Menge collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.
It was recombined as Protosmylus pictus by Krüger (1913), Krüger (1913), Krüger (1923), Winterton et al. (2019); it was recombined as Osmylidia picta by Makarkin et al. (2021).
