Asaphus fisheri was named by Eichwald (1825).

It was recombined as Amphion (Asaphus) fischeri by Eichwald (1840); it was recombined as Pliomera fischeri by Tjernvik and Johansson (1980); it was recombined as Pliomera fisheri by Bergström et al. (2013).
