Molybdocyathus was named by Debrenne et al. (1990) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Archaeocyathida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dictyocyathidae by Debrenne et al. (2015).
