Taxonomy

Mioclaenus corrugatus was named by Cope (1883).

It was recombined as Claenodon corrugatus by Scott (1892), Matthew (1897), Hay (1902), Gidley (1919), Hay (1930), Matthew (1937); it was synonymized subjectively with Claenodon ferox by Simpson (1937), Van Valen (1963); it was synonymized subjectively with Arctocyon ferox by Archibald et al. (1987); it was recombined as Arctocyon corrugatus by Kondrashov and Lucas (2004), Scott et al. (2006).

Synonyms

Claenodon vecordensis was named by Simpson (1935). Its type locality is Lower Lebo Loc. 9, which is in a Torrejonian terrestrial horizon in the "Fort Union" (= Lebo) Formation of Montana.

It was synonymized subjectively with Colpoclaenus silberlingi by Van Valen (1978); it was synonymized subjectively with Claenodon montanensis by Rose (1981); it was synonymized subjectively with Arctocyonides montanensis by Novacek and Wyss (1986); it was synonymized subjectively with Arctocyon montanensis by Archibald et al. (1987), Williamson and Lucas (1993).
Neoclaenodon montanensis was named by Gidley (1919) [genotype]. Its type locality is Gidley Quarry, which is in a Torrejonian terrestrial horizon in the Fort Union Formation of Montana. It is the type species of Neoclaenodon.

It was recombined as Claenodon montanensis by Simpson (1935), Simpson (1937); it was recombined as Arctocyonides montanensis by Van Valen (1978); it was recombined as Arctocyon montanensis by Archibald et al. (1987), Williamson and Lucas (1993); it was synonymized subjectively with Arctocyon corrugatus by Kondrashov and Lucas (2004).
