Taxonomy
Cloeonidae was named by Newman (1853). It is extant. Its type is Cloeon.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Baetidae by Cruz et al. (2021); it was reranked as the subfamily Cloeoninae by Varela-Hernández et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Baetidae by Varela-Hernández et al. (2022).
