Taxonomy
Chalcolestes tibetensis was named by Xia et al. (2022). Its type specimen is NIGP174550, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Northern Kanggale Hill, Nima Basin, which is in a Priabonian lacustrine lime mudstone in China.
