Taxonomy
Craterogale simus was named by Gazin (1936) [genotype]. Its type specimen is USNM 13801, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Craterogale simus type locality, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial horizon in the Runningwater Formation of Nebraska.
