Triamyxidae was named by Qvarnström et al. (2021). Its type is Triamyxa.

It was reranked as the subfamily Triamyxinae by Kirejtshuk et al. (2023).

It was assigned to Myxophaga by Qvarnström et al. (2021); to Sphaeriusoidea by Cai et al. (2022); and to Hydroscaphidae by Kirejtshuk et al. (2023).
