Taxonomy
Virkkipollenites mehtae was named by Lele (1964). It is not extant. Its type locality is Goraia, Shahdol, which is in a Cisuralian fluvial horizon in India.

It was recombined as Cannanoropollis mehtae by Srivastava (1970), Lakhanpal et al. (1976).
