Ginkgo crassipes was named by Feistmantel (1877). It is not extant. Its type locality is Raghavapuram, which is in a Jurassic fluvial horizon in India.

It was recombined as Ginkgoites crassipes by Seward (1919) and Chandra and Tewari (1991).
