Taxonomy
Plesiaceratherium shanwangensis was named by Wang (1965).

It was recombined as Brachypotherium shanwangensis by Wang and Yan (1983); it was synonymized subjectively with Plesiaceratherium gracile by Wang et al. (2016); it was recombined as Diaceratherium shanwangensis by Lu et al. (2021).

Lu et al. 2021Medium-sized species with shorter nasal bones than D. aginense, saddle-shaped skull roof, moderately retracted nasal notch above P3, as in D. asphaltense, orbit above M1, short pos- terior edge of the external auditory pseudomeatus, tall and broad zygomatic arch, large incisors, and robust but longer metapodials than those of D. aginense. A small terminal nasal horn present. Facet for the pyramidal carpus present on distal extremity of radius. The upper cheek teeth subhypsodont; the parastyle, paracone rib, antecrochet, and crochet are developed; both the protocone and hypocone are constricted; the lingual cingulum is developed, but the labial cingulum is absent. Proximal width of magnum close to but smaller than height. The second and third astragalus facets in calcaneus are not continuous. Facet for fibula is present on calcaneus.
