Dipodomys kansensis

Taxonomy
Dipodomys kansensis was named by Hibbard (1937) [also but incorrectly said to be 1939]. Its type specimen is KUMVP 3945, a mandible (lower left jaw, bearing incisor, p4, alveoli of m1, m2, and m3; angle, condyle and coronoid process missing), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Edson, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in Kansas.

It was recombined as Prodipodomys kansensis by Hibbard (1939), Jacobs (1977), Dalquest et al. (1992).

C. W. Hibbard 1937P4, high crowned, with two roots and X-pattern, smaller
than Ml, and as large as M2 or larger; Ml and M2 subequal; M3 greatly reduced, considerably smaller than P4 and M2; Ml with two well developed roots; M2 and M3 single rooted; masseteric ridge well developed, ending in a strong process; tendency toward a slight pit between M3 and coronoid process; a large foramen is present slightly posterior and labial to M3, it enters the ramus below the alveolar border of M3; a very slight grooving is present on lingual side of incisor.
