Taxonomy
Amplexus invaginatus was named by Stumm (1937). Its type specimen is USNM 94443 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Breviphrentis.

It was recombined as Siphonophrentis (Breviphrentis) invaginatus by Merriam (1974), McAllister (1974).

C. W. Merriam 1974This Siphonophrentis has an elongate
subcylindrical mature growth habit with several re- juvenescence constrictions. Septal stereozone is nar- row to fairly wide. The axial extensions of septa are amplexoid, and the narrow cardinal fossula is either vague or well defined in mature growth stages.
