It was assigned to Mesonychinae by Szalay and Gould (1966), Zhou et al. (1995); and to Mesonychidae by Cope (1872), Hay (1930), Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997), Gingerich (1998), Archibald (1998), Thewissen et al. (2001), Tomiya et al. (2021).
