Taxonomy
Liogaster obtusa was named by von Meyer (1844). It is the type species of Liogaster, Litogaster.

It was synonymized subjectively with Litogaster venusta by Assmann (1927); it was recombined as Litogaster obtusa by von Meyer (1847), Förster (1967), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Feldmann et al. (2015).
