Taxonomy
Entomostracites extenuatus was named by Wahlenberg (1821). It is the type species of Megistaspis (Megistaspidella).
It was recombined as Asaphus extenuatus by Hisinger (1837); it was recombined as Megalaspis extenuata by Angelin (1854); it was recombined as Megistaspis (Megistaspidella) extenuata by Nielsen (1995); it was recombined as Megistaspidella extenuatus by Jell and Adrain (2002).
