Melanorrhoeoxylon garbetaense was named by Ghosh and Roy (1980). It is not extant. Its type locality is Shilabati River at Garbeta, which is in a Miocene fluvial-lacustrine horizon in India.
It was recombined as Glutoxylon garbetaense by Guleria (1984), Srivastava (1991).
