Taxonomy
Platygonus ticuli was named by Mones (1974). Its type specimen is 1320-1321 del Departamento de Prehistoria, del Ins tituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zacoalco, Lake Chapala, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Mexico.

A. Mones 1974Rostro delgado, apenas más corto que el cráneo cerebral (46%). Apófisis laterales del zigomático muy desarrollados (ancho máximo en línea recta 255-240 cale). Articulación cóndilo glenoidea a nivel o por encima del plano oclusal de los molariformes. Con quilla sinfisaria en la mandíbula, región angular muy desarrollada. i3 de presencia ----. Tercer lóbulo del M'3 muy poco marcado; en el M:i sencillo o complejo. Media del índice diastema mayor-serie prémolomolar superior (3 ejemplares): 60 (55-63); inferior: 62 (57-68). Metacarpianos libres; metatarsianos soldados en los 2 tercios proximales
