Taxonomy
Lutra melina was named by Pei (1934). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zhoukoudian, Locality 1, Peking Man Site, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in China.
It was recombined as Oriensictis melina by Ogino and Otsuka (2008); it was recombined as Enhydrictis melina by Jiangzuo et al. (2019).
