It was synonymized subjectively with Ischyrosmilus ischyrus by Kurten and Anderson (1980); it was recombined as Homotherium johnstoni by Berta and Galiano (1983); it was synonymized subjectively with Ischyrosmilus gracilis by Churcher (1984).
