Hoplophoneus dakotensis
Taxonomy
Eusmilus dakotensis was named by Hatcher (1895). Its type specimen is PU 11079, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is South of White River, which is in a Rupelian/Whitneyan terrestrial horizon in the Brule Formation of South Dakota.
It was recombined as Hoplophoneus dakotensis by Kretzoi (1929), Morea (1975), Bryant (1984), Bryant (1996), Peigné (2003) and Barrett (2016).
