Romingeria kotoi was named by Yabe and Hayasaka (1915) [Romingeria? kotoi; [?] Syringopora? sp., Yabe, 1904, p. 17.]. Its type specimen is IGPS 8232 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Pseudoromingeria kotoi by Yabe and Sugiyama (1941) and Niko (2009).
