Taxonomy
Hoplophoneus oharrai was named by Jepsen (1926). Its type locality is Peanut Peak, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial horizon in the Chadron Formation of South Dakota.
It was recombined as Drepanodon oharrai by Scott and Jepsen (1936); it was synonymized subjectively with Hoplophoneus mentalis by Hough (1949), Bryant (1996).
