Taxonomy
Hyaenodon brevirostrus was named by Macdonald (1970) [not "H. brevirostris" contra Gunnell 1998a]. Its type locality is Sharps (LACM 2007), which is in a Geringian terrestrial horizon in the Sharps Formation of South Dakota.
