Taxonomy
Itaboraitherium atavum was named by Couto (1954). It is not extant.

Synonyms
  • Homalostylops atavus was named by Paula Couto (1954). Its type specimen is MNRJ 1992-V, a mandible (Posterior fragment of a right mandibular ramus with M1-3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is São José de Itaborai, which is in an Eocene fissure fill marl in the Itaboraí Formation of Brazil.

    It was synonymized objectively with Itaboraitherium atavum by Paula Couto (1970).
