Taxonomy

Hyracodon petersoni was named by Wood (1926) [not the same as Wood 1927]. Its type specimen is CM 3572 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Hyracodon priscidens by Tanner and Martin (1976).

Synonyms

Hyracodon ischyrolophus was named by Schlaikjer (1935). Its type locality is Yoder, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial siltstone/sandstone in the Chadron Formation of Wyoming.

It was synonymized subjectively with Hyracodon priscidens by Kihm (1987); it was synonymized subjectively with Hyracodon petersoni by Prothero (1996).
Hyracodon selenidens was named by Troxell (1921). Its type specimen is YPM 11173 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Hyracodon arcidens by Sinclair (1922), Sinclair (1924) and Wood (1927); it was synonymized subjectively with Hyracodon nebraskensis by Scott (1941), Galbreath (1953), Radinsky (1967) and Prothero (1996); it was synonymized subjectively with Hyracodon petersoni by Prothero (1998).
