Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
I. Pappa et al. 2023Titanochelon schleichi sp. nov. differs from all other Titanochelon spp. (at least their male individuals) because of the unique and autapomorphic morphology of the epiplastral lip, that is quite long and thickened, with a flat dorsal surface, an extensive posterior pro- trusion creating a deep gular pocket, and an even more extensive protrusion anteriorly—caused at the limit of the gularo-humeral sulci—with lateral sides that are parallel to each other and an anterior border that is almost straight without any significant notch. It could be further distinguished from other Titano- chelon spp. (male individuals) on the following combi- nation of characters: domed shape, wide vertebrals, gulars that do not reach the entoplastron, wide xiphi- plastra without an anal notch, wide angle between the scapula and the acromion, fused astragalocalca- neum with a well-developed constriction of the calcaneum.
