Astrocrinites benniei was named by Etheridge (1878).

It was recombined as Zygocrinus benniei by Wanner (1932); it was recombined as Asterocrinus benniei by Bauer (2018); it was recombined as Astrocrinus benniei by Etheridge and Carpenter (1886), Paul et al. (2021).
