Taxonomy
Shapajamys minor was named by Arnal et al. (2022) [zoobank.org:act: 350B5961-2514-4D31-92A0-BAE54DC4FAB3]. Its type specimen is CPI-9980, a set of teeth (left M1 and M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Santa Rosa (LACM Loc. 6289), which is in a Rupelian terrestrial mudstone/sandstone in the Yahuarango Formation of Peru.
