Nuyuyomys chinqaska was named by Boivin et al. (2021) [nov. urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:353264FD-EB4C428F-9F6D-EFC6DC1D7A04]. Its type specimen is MUSM 4308, a set of teeth (right M1?), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TAR-31, which is in a Serravallian terrestrial horizon in the Ipururo Formation of Peru.
