Taxonomy
Lasiurus fossilis was named by Hibbard (1950). Its type specimen is UMMP 25763, a mandible (left ramus with p4-m2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Fox Canyon, which is in a Blancan terrestrial horizon in the Rexroad Formation of Kansas.
