Taxonomy
Canis accitanus was named by Garrido and Arribas (2008). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Museo Geominero, Madrid, FP1-2001-0434, a skull. Its type locality is Fonelas P-1, which is in a Gelasian fluvial horizon in the Guadix Formation of Spain.
